We have heard our missionaries Malcolm and Mary Cleoppe are fine but please pray for this country. Below is a note from some other friends in the Philippines.
Dear praying folks,
We are at the school for a couple of minutes since the internet is working well here. We are without phone, internet or cell signal at our home so feel a little isolated. As we come to the close of this day (Thursday), we are tired but ok. We wanted to let you know that we are doing well and that an even bigger storm is heading toward us and expected to hit by Saturday. WE have no idea how long we may be out of touch so wanted to update you while we had the chance.
Things here are bad: The death count is way over 200, many are homeless and if they are not homeless, all of their things are destroyed (many barely escaped the flood waters with their lives);
Prayer Request for Kenya
Friends,
This coming Sunday we will be conducting a seminar with a church in the city. We have worked with the couples in the church for the past year and the transformation that has happened; from salvation to rededication to the things of God to spouses getting back together- we have enjoyed every moment with them. We are giving a mini-seminar as we launch another couples’ study (HomeBuilders) to about 50 of them. Pray with us as we prepare and also on the day of the seminar. That the Word of God will dwell so richly in each one of the couples and that we will facilitate while giving it all that God has given us.
We are so appreciative of your partnership – there is no way we can do it alone!
Yours serving Every Home in Kenya,
James & Chao Wanje

Update from Randy and Lisa Young
Here is just a quick update from Randy and Lisa Young:
Dear friends,
Greetings from Africa where surprisingly it is pretty cool today. We always thought that our colleagues here were crazy when they said they got cold here when the weather drop down to the mid 70s during the rainy season. How can it be cold when it is that warm? Well today we were cool and Lisa made soup for lunch. I guess you do get used to warmer temperatures. The moral of the story is that we are glad we will be returning to Iowa next summer rather than in January… It will allow us to progressively get used to the winter!
• Malorie and Jonathan have finished school! They are both doing well and enjoying Africa. Jonathan is now taller than his older sister which he is proud of.
• Randy spent a week hosting a group of donors that came out to survey the hospital project to see if they should get involved. They spent some time at the current hospital to see how it functions before going up to Mango to see the land and talk with the team up there. They asked a lot of questions and left really interested in the project. We are waiting now to see how God will lead them.

A Note from Matt Rittgers in Czech
Since the church video guy, Matt Rittgers, is on the Czech team, he is going to try his best to upload some type of media update as much as possible. Please check out www.vimeo.com/prairielakes for some sweet updates about our time!
Czech Team Arrived
The team has arrived at their destination in Brno, Czech Republic after only about 40 hours of traveling! They had safe and mostly uneventful travels. No one lost any baggage and everyone is in great spirits and doing well. They are settling into the Majak center. Matt and Hilary will be sending updates during their time so watch the blog for some fun updates.
Czech Team Leaves
Our team is heading to the Czech Republic today. They left today from Chicago.
Let's all spend some time in prayer for this Outreach Team. Prayer is the best thing we can do for our teams.

Featured Volunteer
On the fourth Saturday of each month, you can bet that a group of Prairie Lakes Church volunteers are fired up and ready to help build homes with families. PLC has a mile long list of members eager to join a Saturday work crew and somebody has to coordinate all of those volunteers. That somebody is church member and volunteer extraordinaire, Peggy Bash.
Since April, 2008 PLC has held the volunteer spot for the fourth Saturday of each Month. Since then as well, Peggy has worked hard to secure volunteers for those Saturday’s and educate her fellow church members about Habitat and the impact of volunteering. In less than two years, Peggy’s list of volunteers has grown to about 270 people with hearts to serve God and their community.
In June 2009, Peggy’s position on the PLC church Outreach Committee is up. She will pass the reins of coordinating Habitat volunteers to Peggy Holdiman.
Habitat and the PLC outreach committee would like to thank Peggy for her hard work and dedication this past year. No worries though, we hope to still see Peggy on Saturday’s on the construction site.

Kenya Team Arrives
I spoke with our Kenya staff and the team leaders a little while ago. The team had a great flight and landed in Nairobi with no issues. The team has gone through customs and gotten their luggage and is now at the hotel for the night. Everyone on the team is doing well. Tomorrow morning they will head north to the 410 Bridge community of Kwambekenya for their first day in the community. Praise the Lord for safe travel for the team. Please continue to pray that the Lord will work in a powerful way in and through this team during their time in Kenya.
New Members to the Outreach team
June 8th the Influence Outreach Ministries will be welcoming Bruce and Tammy Hatfield to our ministry team. Bruce and Tammy (together) will be in working on our Go National Area. Also joining our team will be Julie Flick to our Go Local Ministry. Our team is excited to see what the Lord will continue to do in each of these new members.
We want to say a very big heartfelt thank you to Mark Sharp and Peggy Bash who have been with the team working with our Go National and Habitat areas. You both have done a great job and we so appreciate all your hard work these last three years.

Pray for our Kenya and Czech Repulic Teams
As we prepare to send our short term Go Global teams in June, we once again must remember
that nothing of spiritual significance is accomplished without prayer. Let us now pray specifically for the Kenya Team, June 11-20th and the Czech Republic Team, June 19th-29th. Pray for the health and safety of the members, for their spiritual strength and for God being glorified in their work.

Repairing classrooms in Bosnia
Believe it or not, many schools that were damaged in the Bosnian civil war more than 10 years ago have yet to be repaired. What better way to show the love of Christ to a still hurting people than to assist in the repair of classrooms. They currently need a team of 5 or 6 to do the work for a ten day commitment. The money for materials has been donated and all that is needed is the workers. The cost would be $2,600.00 to $2,900.00 which would be all inclusive. The dates would be either June 20-29th or July 4-13th. For more information, email jeff@imagepointe.com.

Influence Outreach Ministries Update
INFLUENCE YOUR WORLD!!
That is exactly what is happening in our Influence Outreach Ministries at Prairie Lakes Church.
A team of eight just got back from partnering with (MDS) Mennonite Disaster Service in Texas helping victims of hurricane IKE.
Just a quick debrief on Sunday morning when the team returned brought praise to my lips for all the Lord did through this team. Truly they were the hands of Jesus, truly they were servants of the most HIGH God.
And just this week we finished putting teams together for Kenya and Czech Republic. Both teams are full and are preparing for their June outreach ministry. Please pray for both teams as they begin to prepare themselves to carry the light of Jesus to both these countries. If you are interested in becoming a prayer partner for these trips just email us back and we will make sure you will get the names to pray for and updated details.
We would like to let each one of you know of something we are doing in our Outreach Ministries Department. On
Sunday, April 26th, May 3rd, and May 10th at 5:00-6:30 our own Brad Graber is sharing with ANYONE interested in
“influencing their world for Jesus” to come join us as he shares a three-part series by Steve Saint entitled
The Mission Dilemma. These sessions will give us a heightened awareness of how our presence in the field and the things we do can either have a positive outcome or create a negative result.
I have personally seen this entire series and have to let each one of you know, THIS IS NOT just for our Go Global ministries.
It is so geared for every area in our Go Local, Go National, and Go Global areas of outreach. This is why we have decided to open it to anyone interested in knowing and learning more about how to be effective in Influencing their world.
Each session will be held in the Chapel at Prairie Lakes, so please feel free to join us.
Personally I would like to say a huge “thank you” from your Outreach Ministries Committee for your willingness to serve the Lord through our Influence Outreach Ministries. From our Go Local partners, to serving on our Go National Teams, to the trips this summer we have put together for our Go Global outreach, God is using each one of you. And for all of you who have
let us know you are praying for the teams we thank you so much.
No greater joy is there in life than to know that you are in the center of God’s will for your life, serving, praying and giving your all to glorify your Heavenly Father.
Finally, don’t forget to check out the INFLUENCE section of the web site. We now have our own PLC missionaries on the site and their prayer requests. How exciting is that?
Thank you all so much for being a part of Prairie Lakes Influence Outreach Ministries.
